Further to Russell Hayes' photos (27 Feb) and due to my (temporary) reduced mobility, I was grateful to get out of the house this afternoon and check out Ron Fox's feeding station by the Chambers Farm Wood Education Centre (1.40 -2.40), including :

3 Lesser Redpoll - (Ron said he'd had up to 5 this month)
2 Siskin (1male, 1 female) - (up to 4)
3 Coal Tits
up to 12 Goldfinches.

Many thanks to Ron for his hard work and continuing dedication to his feeding station at Chambers Farm Wood. :D :)

Regards,

Freddy

Is this place on a bus route? I wouldn't mind going there to try and get Redpoll onto my Life List....

Whisby NP or the Lincoln parks may be a better bet, and they're reachable by public transport. Or to find your own, just look out for areas of birch and/or alder woodland. Any area with these tree species stands a chance of holding redpolls. You'll probably get lucky.

Did you see the Sparrowhawk Freddie?

On Sunday a male Sparrowhawk made at least 10 strikes on the feeding station in a couple of hours but never managed to catch anything while I was there.

One of the Lesser Redpolls seen was a fine male with a good coating of Red on his breast.

Russell,
I didn't see the Sparrowhawk during my visit but Ron Fox told me about its frequent appearances at the feeding station.

I did see the handsome male Redpoll plus the male Siskin - both beautifully plumaged birds.

Freddy
