Goosander 11 (2 males and 9 females although some of these may have been juveniles). This location is where the A52 crosses the South Forty Foot about 1 mile west of Donington just after crossing the Hammond Beck. Typical Goosander easily scared off even at long range although 3 were initially under the road bridge despite the passage of regular heavy lorries. Nearby was 1 Little Egret. This stretch of drainside is very inaccessible both to the north and south through both Swaton and Horbling Fen and Mallard Hurn and as a consequence is probably rarely visited.

I've been back this afternoon and all have moved. The water level has been dropped in the last 48 hours in excess of 1 metre.
