Pete Haywood called me at 5.00 p.m this evening to say that he had seen a Great White Egret from the hide at Kirkby on Bain Pits. It was on view for a while and then took to the wing. Pete was not sure of where it went after that. Roy |

That's a shame John. Pete said he saw it well - including it's large yellow bill. This is his fourth sighting of Great White Egret in Lincolnshire. Roy |

It appears that Trevor Gunby saw a Great White Egret at Kirkby Pits on 28.01.11 I was out of the country at the time so news of this sighting may have already been circulated? Roy http://www.birdguides.com/species/species.asp?sp=20013 |

It was observed by Jayne at 1030 ish today on 2nd GP on the left from Coningsby. Also later today by someone on South Pits before taking flight towards the fields. I assume 2nd GP is the one just after WSSG main entrance on the left. I have also observed here Little Egrets going to roost in the evening and 2 Heron nests have recently been constructed here so there is still hope it will hang around as it might associate with Herons for good fishing spots! |

I was at Kirkby Pits for about two and a half hours today from 11.40 a.m. and had a good look round, including the back pits. I also met up with Trevor Gunby who got the GWE pictures about three weeks ago when the bird was in the river about 100 yards from the small bridge. Unfortunately, there was no sign of the bird today, although I did locate three eminent Lincs. Bird Club members! Roy |

Good look around most of the pits this afternoon with no luck whatsoever. A fisherman told us that he had seen it fly over towards the roadside pits earlier in the day |

It's like a Bittern, you don't see it, but when it does turn up, you'rwe not looking for it. It's like a fighter jet - it crops up when you're not on guard, and delivers one blow and that's it. That's all it needs to. You're stunned from that moment in silence as it glides away... |
