Callan's Lane Wood Surrounded at one point by a loose flock of over 30 assorted tits. At one pont I had an amazing view of a Willow Tit and a Marsh Tit feeding inches apart. I often struggle to identify them by sight; I usually rely on them calling, but even then some of the calls seem to be shared by both species. However seeing the two specis so close together it is amazing how different they look. The Marsh Tit was very clean and smart with an immaculate white breast, shiny cap and small bib, whereas the Willow Tit had a buffer breast and underparts, larger bib, matt cap and distinctly thicker neck. 5 Marsh Tits - at least, maybe more 1 Willow Tit 3 Siskins 6 Bullfinches 50 Redwings 1 Nuthatch 2 Treecreepers 2 G S Woodpeckers 1 Raven -seen twice Irnham - 1 Red Kite Stainby landfill - 4 Red Kites Regards, Ian |
