Colin, Sheila and David,
How could you be so thoughtful and yet so thoughtless as to put some fresh Waxwing reports on the web for Monday morning consumption? .......reports which my Project conscience dictates should be checked out. There was I, and probably a number of others, hoping for a 'free' day after a busy Waxwing week, ie.for others, free from more of those "Freddy Whossit's bleedin' Waxwing reports." Anyway, here goes :

I checked the Causeway/Railway Signal Box area at 1.15 today (Mon), and also later at 2.20, but nothing to report..... and no berries left, unlike when I had 14 Waxwings there on 7th Jan.

I had better luck at the Spar shop on Grantham Road. On my arrival, there were 13 Waxwings perched behind the shop and feeding nearby on Rose-hips. I spent the next 15 minutes watching them in the pleasant company of 85 year-old Silver Lister Sleaford birder, plus bicycle, Derek Brooks - he said he knows you well, Colin and Sheila, and he sends his best wishes. :D :)

Regards,

Freddy

Hi Freddy

Yes we know Derek very well and although we haven't seen him for some time we are pleased to know he is still getting to see some birds.

Yesterday we first encountered the Waxwings along Nags Head Passage, this runs parallel to the railway along the town side and runs into Castle Causeway by the signal box. The birds were very mobile and were seen feeding in several places usually on Rose-hips.

Regards,

Colin and Sheila

Still at least 7 birds at Castle Causeway/Railway signal box this afternoon but quite mobile. A Lesser Redpoll briefly shared the same tree.

Good luck Katherine.

13 again by Spar shop on Grantham Road at 2:30 pm. There are numerous rose-hip bushes in the area and we hope the Waxwings will loiter in Sleaford for a while yet.
