Huge numbers of Waxwings at Witham St Hughs - Same area as previous but I have never seen close to this amount before- I started counting got to 80 before they flew but quickly settled again but was only approx 2/3rds through the flock. I estimate there was at least 120 in the flock. Also of note the Female Brambling was back on the bird feeders at Whisby(11.30) and the 3 Whooper swans (2 adults and 1 immature) are still on Thulby Sand Pit (9.00am). Thanks Mark |

( I left BBH before Ian M. posted his report.) Went over to the usual stakeout on the WSH - Thurlby road ( 15 - 20 minutes' drive) arriving at c.1.30pm. Nothing to report there. I was joined by Lincoln birders Terry and Eileen Corlett and together we decided to go into the Estate along Cuckoo Walk. We soon found c.30 perched Waxwings, which were then flying to, and back from, a berry source in the front garden of a house in Sorrell Road some 50 -75m away, occasionally perching on a house roof there. We then walked back to the Thurlby road site where we had parked our cars but still nothing to report there. (2.30pm.) Thanks for the info, Mark. ![]() ![]() Regards, Freddy |

Waxwings still ranging over the estate at Witham St Hughes this morning, Tuesday. A minimum of 89 seen in large tree at road end of Cuckoo walk. Very few berries seen on estate. |

Further to Andy's post, I visited WSH again today (Tue) 1.30 - 2.40. The favourite tree along Cuckoo Walk was occupied by just 2 Waxwings and it took me quite a lot of wandering around the WSH Estate before I bumped a sizeable flock of 50+ feeding on berries in the back garden of 6, Raven's View (just to the right of the Circular Play Area on Cuckoo Walk if coming from the Thurlby road). The flock then took off but I relocated them at the WSH Roundabout : the birds were perching in an Oak tree and flying across the road to feed on berries under a clump of Pine trees on the Roundabout. (2.30.) ![]() ![]() I also checked out the Office Complex area (as per Ian M. above) at 1.25 and 2.40 but nothing to report except a group of c.20 Redwings on the nearby lawns. The obvious target tree, however, still has masses of berries. Regards, Freddy |

I was there just before you Freddie. Couldn't locate any on the estate but 20+ Redwing and 1 GS Woodpecker in the wood to the south. Finally caught up with them on the industrial estate. Very scattered and mobile but certainly 30+ birds. Hugh PS nothing out of the ordinary on the Trent pits |
