Encouraged by Robert's post of goosanders near Kirkstead bridge about a couple of weeks ago, I keep looking and took a trip up the river road and found one tonight about 200yds up the road from Kirkstead bridge to Tattershall bridge.

It was a female and only the single. After a few minutes it took off and turned back towards Kirkstead bridge. Also observed 228 Mallard, 10 Teal, 2 Great Crested Grebe, 1 Redshank, 8 Lapwing, 9 Gadwell, 1 Cormorant and 19 Tufted Duck whilst travelling along the road.

Worringly, its the 21 Jan 10, and for this year I have not seen a Barn Owl, no matter where I look!

Cheers

It's not very scientific I Know, but my informal watching of the 2km circle centred on the mini roundabout in Woodhall has not shown any decrease in number of species this January - in fact, the reverse! I have recorded 60 species for the first time, including 3 species of Owl - Barn seen on three occasions so far. Also recorded are Little from Monument Farm area and the fantastic Tawny Owl which sits in the tree on sunny days - found by Russ.

Rob, thats good - matter of wrong timing then. If I won't look for one I'll see one so I will take that approach.
