Bit of a luckless and Lark-less day today...

21 Shore Lark reported on the dune 'slack' - me and the parents went to said area and obviously didn't walk far enough north up the reserve to be in the area to see them! What doesn't help is my inability (due to developmental disability) to remember the detail of, or sequence of spoken instructions (requiring written instructions). I will either forget the whole lot, or remember only 1 or 2 details. :(

Highlight of the day was a Barn Owl seen close to the Mere Hide, so the day wasn't entirely devoid of luck. 2 seen by others, as well as a Short-eared Owl too. On the scrapes, 2 pairs of Canada Geese were either reinforcing territory rights, or engaging in early courtship. Large group of 30 Coot or so grazing on the grassy edges of Jackson's.

90 Red-throated Divers and 30 Eiders reported 2 days ago offshore.

I feel luckless as the entire reserve was remarkably quiet and very frustrated due to my lack of ability to follow the directions the bloke in the visitor centre viewpoint gave me.....

Maybe best to visit at the weekend when there is a good chance that people will have the shore lark flock pinned down.

Red -necked grebe and 150 red-throated divers offshore today. Six hen harriers again yesterday - per JPS and DW

Cheers

Kev
