Post subject:  More Lincoln Waxwings - 8 Jan

So as to actively continue my Waxwing Winter Project, I am following up every Waxwing lead in the general Lincoln area ( without delay, as far as possible).

On 6 Jan 'Birdguides' reported :
" Lincs - North Hykeham
40+ Waxwings between the Comprehensive School and the Medical Centre."
and
on 7 Jan 'Birdguides' reported :
" Lincs - North Hykeham
20 on Newark Road opposite the Ocean Cantonese Restaurant ".

This morning (Sat), after dropping off my wife in Lincoln I continued on for the 10 minutes or so to Newark Road and the Ocean Cantonese Restaurant. I soon found the Rowan tree magnet - completely stripped of berries. 15 minutes walking around the area produced nothing.
Next stop, the Medical Centre at the Moor Road/Newark Road traffic lights (11.50). There is ample parking behind the Medical Centre and within a few seconds of parking, I noticed the typical silhouettes in a bare tree by the North Kesteven School :

9 Waxwings were there, occasionally dropping down to feed in a berry tree by the Drama School entrance (a similar tree to the Lincoln Railway Station one with many juicy red berries).

Part of my Project is to put the Waxwing news out on the web as soon as possible so that others may also have the chance to enjoy these super birds before they move on.

Regards,

Freddy

Called in again at the North Kesteven School site behind the North Hykeham Medical Centre this morning (10.30 - 11.20).
5 or 6 Waxwings were feeding in the berry trees ( there are actually 2 trees c.20 yards apart in front of the Drama School building and the birds were feeding in both.)
The flock built up to a maximum of 10 and I stayed around in case they might reach the 40+ reported on 6 Jan, but 10 remained the highest count.
Comfortable viewing from inside the warm car. :D :)

Regards,

Freddy
