Visited Worlaby this afternoon
Conspicuous by their absence were the short eared and barn owls. Not one was seen by anyone.
Must have been about 8 kestrels though

At least 2 Short-Eared showing well at the bottom end , just before the railway crossing between 4.15 and 4.30, although by then the light was fading fast. Not the double figures of last year, but still hanging on! No Barn Owls seen. Far fewer birders looking today than last year as well.

The Short-eared Owl's have ceased to show as well as before christmas due no doubt to shooting activities and have probably dispersed elsewhere, the last decent count i had was 7 on 18.12.10. which were all incidentally flushed by a shooting party.

Regards

Steve.

I had all but given up hope. They only showed very late.

Apologies for the late post but we had three SEO's by the car park at Worlaby on 3rd January. The birds flew round for a matter of minutes at about 3.45 pm, before settling down in the long grass. We waited in the cold until about 4.15 pm, hoping for longer views or more birds, but there was no more activity or any Barn Owls.

We also had a female Marsh Harrier, one, possibly two, female Hen Harriers, 3 Buzzards, 5 Kestrels and a Sparrowhawk.

Regards,

David Cohen
