When I came home yesterday from watching the Lincoln High Street Waxwings, my wife Inga said, "There was an unusual bird on the Crabapple tree earlier ..... it was about the size of a Starling with a chestnut crest and with yellow on the tail. HMMNN!

Anyway, at c12.30 today (Fri), there it was .....a Waxwing feeding with 2 Mistle Thrushes on my Sentinel Crabapple tree. Fortunately, my son Alex was able to get a (low quality)iPhone record shot through his bedroom window - see Photo Album.

Regards,

Freddy
PS. I actually planted the Sentinel Crabapple tree some 6 or 7 years ago as I had read an article about its fruit appeal to Waxwings. At the time, the main thought I and my birding colleagues had was "Dream on!" :D :D

After shopping in Lincoln this morning "24th Dec" and having seen 20+ Waxwings near Magistrates Court/ Sony Centre I too returned home and saw 3 more Waxwings eating from my neighbour's apple tree. Then neighbour's cat duly spooked them,I am sitting here hoping for them to return.

Good luck with the photo opportunity, Russell. Obviously your main headache will be to better the quality of my iPhone shot! :D :D

Freddy
