I felt like I was looking for survivors after a tsunami as I walked the Reserve today. A heavy heart watched the 'lucky' ones but inside you couldn't help think that they'd be better off dead. Grey skies even denied the eye of an artisic slant and my binoculors remained on my chest.
Redwing, fieldfare and blackbird search places usually overlooked and a single coot stood amongst littered slab ice on the foreshore with a back drop of receding tide carrying floatillas of mini icebergs summed up the plight of living things.
We are putting out fish and other food matter onto favoured bittern haunts in hope that we may buy some time, these offerings are being taken but by what we can only guess.
