OK
I know im not great at identifying birds but i do know what a bittern looks like :) more so when it takes off 10ft away from me so im 100% sure about this.
it was in the small lake close to the first bridge( walking from the car park ) and flew off to the back of the small lake directly in front of the bridge .

Hi Robert,

Terrible time for bittern at the moment and I am glad that at least one is still alive. You don't mention whether the pond is frozen over so I would assume that it is not. Areas of open water is a real scarcity here ar Far Ings, in fact all our species seem to be trapped in an ice cube like the famous mosquito in amber.

Fingers crossed for bitterns.

most of it is indeed frozen over but theres a dyke that runs into it and that is still running so a very small area is not frozen ,the main lake is solid ice.
