On my way for a game this morning, Great Grey Shrike sitting on electrical wires just inside quarry main entrance. I had no binos but had good close views from the car of about 20 metres until it took towards the pit being dug. What puzzled me is how clean and slick this one looked (only other Greats I have seen seem more fluffed up) - definitely an adult but can only assume Lanius excubitor with no optical equipment with me. Will check back later before dusk, but not seen on my way home early afternoon. Also c100 Pink footed Geese over. Pattern with this flock is quite certain now. In the morning they head E to W towards Woodhall Spa, at dusk they come over W to E heading towards Tattershall Thorpe. Do not know where they feed during day or roost at night. |
