Calm, mild day on the patch:- 58 Shoveler 14 Wigeon 10 Pochard Bittern showed in cutting 1 from 10:40 to 11:15. Caught and ate a 100mm Tench and bathed several times. Later it climbed up into the top of the reeds and sat preening for about 30 minutes. 1 Water Rail in cutting 6 1 Willow Tit with large flock of Long-tailed, Blue & Great Tits 1 Treecreeper 13 Lesser Redpolls feeding in silver birches 3 Bullfinches (1 male) |

Are Swanpool & Boultham Mere good sites for Redpolls, then? |

Not really, this was only my 3rd record of Lesser Redpoll on the patch this year. The alders around the lake in Boultham park, off Rookery Lane, Lincoln, are a regular winter site for Lesser Redpolls and Siskins. |
