A rather quiet time in terms of bird movement and special guests so plenty of mind time to enjoy the colours of autumn, kicking up the tortoiseshell carpet as I passed through the wooded parts.

A yellow leaf specially selected by a shaft of sunlight amongst the shaded understory surely rivals even the brightest coloured bird for impact?

Notable birds today were a female marsh harrier and a flock of 480 golden plover that swirled over Chowder in a blaze and noisey spectacle.

The kingfisher appreciation society were out in force today, in ness hide, and from chatter I believe their camera memory cards have been topped up.
