Most records form the garden today.

Two whoopers west from the kitchen window at 0800 and at lunchtime an extraordinary event involving a weasel taking a dead greenfinch into a freshly excavated tunnell on the lawn. It was not clear whether the weasel had killed the greenfinch, or chanced upon a dead bird, but I was having a battle to stop the weasel from dragging the bird down the tunnell before I got its ring number. Despite being weakened by 'manflu', I was successful in obtaining the details before the dead bird dissaapeared from view !

Also a very late osprey headed off inland late afternoon. A very distinctive bird with many feathers missing on the left outer-wing. It looked decidedly lop-sided in flight - wonder if this bird has been reported elsewhere ?

Cheers

Kev

Thanks Geoff - undoubtedly the same bird - I am more optimistic about its chances now if it has made it from Spurn to Gib in four hours.

Don't forget what our raptors ( and song birds ) have to go through as they pass though the Med each year on both spring and autumn migration. Areas of France, Malta and Sicily spring to mind.
Just remember this as you book your summer hols!!!
