Birds continue to arrive, more blackbirds in today in particular. A Pallas's Warbler was new in with a yellow-browed warbler in the clump of sycamores along the ridge east of the golf course this morning. Also, JPS saw 2 bearded tits arrive and 7 sparrowhawks move south. Cheers Kev |

Kev, the rarest bird of the day - for Gib anyway - must be the Lesser Spotted Woodpecker that Mick Briggs caught this afternoon!! |

Yes, the lesser-spot probably makes it into the top five rarities of the year at Gib now - with only three previous reserve records (same as the Wilsons Phal !) and following on from the nuthatch a couple of weeks ago (third record). It is good to know that there are enough lesser spots about for the odd one to disperse to the coast - assuming it did not cross the north sea! Cheers Kev |

That's a superb record, Kev and probably the most unexpected bird to turn up in a mist net at Gibraltar Point!! There are usually about a dozen ringed annually in the UK and no foreign ringed Lesser Spotted Woodpecker has been found in the UK. In view of their sedentary nature in Lincs, who knows where this one came from? |
