Hi.
Today I lost my binocs at Covenham Res at approx 11.50am. Whilst photographing the phalarope on the North wall I left them on the wall and walked off in the direction of the water works. At the works whilst looking at the cormorants i realised I hadnt got them anymore. When I walked back they had gone so i suspect somebody has taken them. Hopefully they will be handed in to the nearest Police Station but as yet they havent at Louth or Grimsby. All my birding has been done using these binocs so they hold a lot of sentimental value for me.
If anybody finds them, see or hears anything or is offered any for sale please can they contact me:
SWIFT Audubon HHS 8.5 x 44 black armoured with a widish black neck strap 'SWIFT' stitched into it in yellow writing.
07963 814625 matthewstrahan@hotmail.co.uk
Thanks to all those people who kept an eye out for me this morning.
Birds seen:
Grey Phalarope (North wall), Red necked Grebe, 48 x Wigeon, approx 30 x Teal, 1 x (f) Pintail, 1 x GSW'pecker, Goldfinches, Meadow Pipits, 5 x Kestrels on the journey. No sign of the juv Black tern and the Slav Grebe was there apparently but I didnt see it. Thanks, Matthew.

I was at Covenham, with Rob Carr & Rachel, from 08:30 to about 10:15. We walked right round, in perfect conditions but did not see the Grey Phalarope, 5 other birders present had not seen it either, I can only assume it flew in after we left.
The Slavonian Grebe was in the NE corner and also seen were 2 Dunlin, 4 House Martins, 6 Swallows and 1 Wheatear.

I think it was about 11.15 when the bird reappeared Andy, It showed very well on the north side all afternoon. For much of the time it was close to the top of the steps from the man car park.
The Slavonian and Re-necked Grebes were very elusive, I had only long-range views of them after lunch.

Regarding your binoculars Matthew, I phoned Keith Robinson this evening to put him in the picture. As I mentioned, Keith birds at Covenham most days. If he gets any information he will let me know.

Andrew & Roger thanks for your kind help and concern - no news as yet. And thanks to all those people I rushed up to yetserday in a mild panic to bend their ear about my binoculars.

I have been expecting someone to mention the girl/woman who walked past shortly after you moved off and left your bins. A guy with camera told me about you leaving your bins on the top and that a girl/woman seems to have been the only candidate for lifting them. No idea who she was of course and don't know who the chap was a Cov yesterday.

Colin - you are right about this but I dont want to go down the route of blaming somebody for pinching them just yet - Im hoping that the person who took them is honest and will hand them in soon...

Thanks Colin,
Matthew.
