FINALLY did the walk from Freiston Shore to Witham Mouth today, and when I arrived with semi-knackered legs at the Cut End Bird Hide, I saw in the Welland Mouth some sort of large-ish duck with a lot of white on it. Thought it might be a Goldeneye but the head/neck plumage didn't look right. Semi-visible white chinstrap a la Canada Goose, except that it wasn't a Canada goose if you get me. Looked slightly Bufflehead-ish to me. Might it be a Goldeneye/Bufflehead hybrid or something? Perhaps it might hang around for a while... |

Hmm...... -ish. First thoughts were remarkably early Smew but..... still none the wiser. |
