Went across the patch this afternoon to try again for the Whinchat Dean had seen yesterday, I had failed to see it yesterday evening in the strong wind.
Whilst walking across the tip I flushed a Quail from the grass just in front of me. I had good views of it as it flew low over the grass and landed about 100m away in an area of thistles and grass. Steve Botham and Dean Nicholson came down but despite extensive searching it was not seen again.
Also seen today:-
Female Garganey on the island in front of the hide.
Juvenile Whinchat on the tip.

Danny, these reports cover the area of Swanpool across to Boultham mere, this is "the patch" for several local birders.
The female Garganey is on Boultham mere and is usually visible from the hide. It spends a lot of time on and around the small muddy island.
The tip is the old Skewbridge tip and is to the south of the access track when walking to the mere from Tritton road.
Most of the migrant passerines are seen in the hedges, wood and fields between Boultham mere and Swanpool.
I hope this helps.
