The pair of Mute Swans on the main pit at Fiskerton fen have 6 well grown young, 2 of which are the white morph known as "Polish Swans, the other 4 being normal grey birds.

Last year this same pair also had 2 white morph young along with 2 normal grey ones.

Does anyone know how common this is and is it normal for mixed broods to occur?

Andy

There is another pair with two "Polish" young along the Sincil Drain near to Washingborough this year.
The Fiskerton Fen birds have thrown one or two "Polish" for the last 4 years.

It is only the Females that are white so you will usually get a mixed brood.
