A lot of Larids on Riverslea pit between 0630 and 1000 this morning. Picked out a couple of Yellow legged gulls and a possible Caspian, but find these quite hard and this sod wouldnt stop still (espically as I wanted a side by side to a Herring Gull). They were all on the island on Riverslea so were quite a distance from bridleway. Picked it up on chest, head, skinny legs and eye quite forward but was not happy to confirm ID. Other gulls: 161 Black-headed Gull, 20 LBB, 15 GBB and 5 Herring Gull. Other highlights around the reserve: 1 Turtle Dove 2 Avocet (4 young are active) 1 Garden Warbler 2 Lesser Whitethroat 1 Chiffchaff 1 Blackcap 2 Little Ringed Plover (1 yg) Common Terns caused a stir when a Sparrowhawk turned up Thanks |

Had a similar experience this morning John at Whisby. Went looking for the Caspian Gull and the head scratching started when I tried to pick a Yellow Legged Gull out from the Lesser Black Backs. I think I did but Im no expert and have very little experience on this - one particular bird had a much paler grey back and stronger/brighter yellow legs. I took this to be a Yellow Legged Gull but wouldnt swear to it. As for the Caspian, its back to the drawing board for me! Cheers, Matthew. |

Two Y L Gulls there this afternoon (1x3cy and 1x4cy+). Caspian had been seen earlier on the tip. One crossbill over Cheers Kev |

There does seem a move on with them at the moment, and looking at my records for YLG, about the same time last year for Kirkby. Will blog an image of one of the YLG tonight, however possible Caspian is blurred as it would not stop walking. Thanks all, |
