good numbers of Black-tailed Godwits now on the Humber with eg 300 at Alkborough and 48 at Barton this week; colour ringed birds have included Suffolk ringed adults previously recorded at Killingholme in autumn 2009, one ringed on the wintering grounds in France and one ringed as a juv in Iceland

Just a reminder for anyone seeing colour ringed Black-tails most birds have 4 colour rings on the tibia (some have 6) -- colours are White, Yellow, Orange, Red, Blue, Green, Lime (a pale green colour), Black -- some White rings have a black X and some rings have a flag usually Red or Orange -- the rings on the Tarsus a re usually scheme markers and less important but the Wash scheme are White -- note that some rings may be stained with iron oxide at this time of year when the birds first arrive from Iceland and Whites can become orange! but the top or bottom edges will usually still be white

Recording rings is done left leg top to bottom then right leg top to bottom so upper left tibia, lower left tibia, left tarsus would be Red/Green //White right upper tibia, right lower tibia then right tarsus Y/O //

total above = RG//W YO Black is recorded as N and White X = X so RX would be Red / White with X
