A flock of 6 spoonbills turned up this morning and have been on Jacksons Marsh or Tennyson's Sands since. A splendid sight and probably the largest flock recorded here. Cheers Kev |

The 6 Spoonbills - 5 adults which arrived yesterday +1 already present immature - were present until early afternoon when an overflying helicopter spooked them and they were last seen heading south into the Wash. 1 of the adults carried a combination of 5 Dutch colour rings. |

4 Spoonbills present at Gib all day today - mostly on Jacksons. The colour ringed bird is in fact an immature so 4 ads and 2 imms yesterday and 3 ads and 1 colour ringed immature today. There seems to be Spoonbills everywhere at the moment. |

Just received a reply on the colour ringed Spoonbill. It was ringed as a nestling in Oosterkwelder, Holland on 24th June 2008. It is the first sighting since it was ringed. Right leg - yellow/red/green Left leg - metal/yellow flag/pale green |

A pleasure to meet up with you, Terry, and to enjoy a chat as well as enjoying the 8 Spoonbills plus the Little Egrets. ![]() ![]() I had arrived solo at first at Jackson's Hide at c 1.00pm - I was surprised to find the hide empty but delighted to see the 8 Spoonbills in front . By c 1.30, 5 other birders had turned up but the Spoonbills then left in the direction of Harvey Hide where Terry and I caught up with them. 4 had relocated to Jackson's again by 2.30pm when I caught up with them again. Also seen incl. : 3 Little Egrets 3 Grey Herons. Regards, Freddy |

The new colour ringed Spoonbill that turned up today is a bit of a traveller. It was ringed, like the other 1, as a nestling , at Oosterkwelder in Holland but a year earlier on 5th June 2007. In 2008 it was in Valencia in southern Spain and in 2009 it was on the Atlantic coast of France. Lets hope it breeds successfully next year - at Gib if it likes!! |
