Post subject:  Swan causes power cut in Gipsey Bridge

Yesterday early afternoon we had a power cut. My neighbour calls me and says a Swan has hit the the powers lines crossing her field. One of the 2 Swans maybe injured. In the few minutes it took me to get their, one of the swans had left. On approaching the other a Mute swan it got to it's feet shakily. My neighbour had seen the impact and said there was quite a firework display as the 3 wires contacted. I couldn't see any burn marks on the swan. It started to test it's wings and then it's tail. The head and neck looked OK. It walked about for about 15 minutes, we withdrew and it departed, apparently just shaken by the experience. Quite impressive it knocked out the supply to 69 houses.
