I've been 'out of town' for a few days but here's an update on what has been seen at Whisby.

Last Nightingale survey undertaken last Friday located 6 singing males. As noted by others, Coot Lake remains the main spot (5 singing males).
Common Tern - 3 birds returned on the 25th. Now daily.
Turtle Dove - first bird returned on the 25th.
Garden Warbler - first bird returned on the 25th. Now daily.
Hobby - after last weeks early bird on the 21st single bird(s) daily from the 25th.

Regards

Grahame

I'm just back from my weekly Nightingale survey at Whisby, and was keen to get a survey in before the colder temperatures promised for the weekend, which will have an impact on activity. Tonight was absolutely ideal with light winds and a pleasant warm evening. It was a very productive time with 'quadraphonic' Nightingales singing on all four sides! The results were 7 singing around Coot/West Lakes and 2 singing around Teal Lake, giving a total of 9 singing birds so far this year.

Heard three singing down by the railway before a squally shower curtailed their song - 18:30 - very cool wind
Plenty of garden warblers about
For the second visit running heard no whitethroat
Seven common tern
Two little ringed plover
Two oystercatchers

What is the best time to hear the Nightingales? If I can get back to the railway station at Lincoln before the last connections, I might make the trip... would any one of you be willing to meet me?
