Geoff Trinder et al found Whisbys first Nightingale of the year today in the south west corner of Teal Lake. It was singing (but not showing) at around 11.45am and I heard it at around 5.45pm.

This is a early record/arrival (five year mean 2005 to 2009 = 13th April), but is not the earliest record for Whisby, which was found by Pete Haywood on the 4th April 2005.

Regards

Grahame

One reported singing intermittently at Gib on 3rd April - this would be our earliet ever (previous earliest 10th April).

What is the earliest date for Lincs ?

Cheers

I asked the County Recorder in 2005 if Pete Haywoods 4th April bird at Whisby was potentially the earliest ever Lincs record, and never got an answer....................................

I would suspect (but have no real idea) that your 3rd April record for this year could just be a record breaker for the county, unless someone out there knows different.

According to SoBiL, extreme dates (up to 1995) are 10 April - Sep 23rd.
