A mob of grounded pipits yesterday evening on the East Dune edge contained two summer Scandinavian Rock Pipits that were very water pipit like and 8 swallows in. New arrivals this morning Ring ousel firecrest 2 woodlark (although this may have been one of the two seen on Sunday) song thruch 5 fieldfare redwing 3 whimbrel 2 spoonbill - flew into Wash sand martin 5 Cheers Kev |

Afternoon visit and no sign of the Spoonbill and apart from 1 Greenshank and 20-30 Eiders on sea very little else. However just as I was driving away Kev stopped me and said the Spoonbill was back at Jackson's Marsh, so parked back up and saw the sleeping Spoonbill. Back to car park and Kev pointed out a Short-eared Owl over the saltmarsh and a Black Redstart by the centre. So it turned into a very good day. Thanks Kev. |

Kev - can I give you my mobile phone number? There's a chance I could get to Gib this weekend. Would like to be kept up to date regarding the presence of the Ring Ouzel, 2 Woodlark and Firecrest. |

Katherine - No reports of ring ousel or woodlark today and one firecrest near the Yacht Club - but no guarantee that will still be there at the weekend. Given the virtual absence of goldcrest recently, a record of three today constsituted a large fall ! Otherwise, now is a good time to get to grips with willow warbler and chiffcahff ID - with a selection of dull willows and bright chiffs, chiffs with apparently pale legs, and few of them calling or singing ! Totals of 11 willows and 20 chiffs Full coverage of the census area resulted in 87 species today - highlights below Spoonbill reported again on Jacksons Marsh but not there early eve green sand greenshank sparrowhawk 7 (3 south) redwing 6 brambling 2 rock pipit 2 littoralis yellow wagtail 3 merlin black redstart pintail 2 shoveler 45 white wagtail pink footed goose 2 whimbrel common buzzard 1 north and 3 north-west hen harrier 1 Cheers Kev |
