After hearing about the first reports of Swallows into the country, I eagerly grabbed the bins and went on 'Swallow Patrol' along the South Forty Foot west of Boston. Alas, no swallows present yet, but two Great Crested Grebes displaying most vigorously during the time I sat on the bank and watched through the bins. I saw head shaking, running and weed presentation - a most lovely 10-15 mins or so!
There appears to be some sort of works program going on a little further 'up-drain' from Chain Bridge. I think it might be the creation of new Sand Martin nesting holes... if the works ARE what I think they'd better hurry up and get them finished! In the foliage around and about, a few Blue Tits and Dunnocks in beautiful voice. The best of all was a Blackbird sitting on top of a hedge giving a terrific recital!
