Fieldfare;300+ in fields near Messingham Village+50 + on the msq reserve.
5 Common Buzzards today actually over the edge of the reserve,4 last week, what puzzles me when i look in the log for march,no mention of raptors,no buzzards etc,.even an experienced birder logging everything moving has no mention of buzzards!!very strange.

Rog,

Three possible reasons.

Those that enter their sightings haven't been. Those that have been either don't want to enter their sightings or can't be bothered. Or those that do enter their sightings such as me when doing the WeBS survey etc know full well that they may as well not bother because their sightings are not recognised except by other birders. In the last local LBC newsletter a well known north Lincs birder who doesn't put his sightings on the forum was thanked for doing his sightings for this reserve. But then again I could be wrong!

Max

Hi John,
My comments were a bit tonque -in -cheek there,Max,C"mon,Buzzards should be an easy enough bird to id.
I know why Buzzards are not being included in the log,its because people do not notice them at all,i often sit in a hide packed full of people start counting buzzards,1 2c 3 4 5 etc etc.and not one person is looking at them, people such as alan and carol hudson are tuned in to raptors, its great when their around cos i know then there is 3 people looking for raptors instead of the usual one,Canada mike is good too.
Cheers,
Roger.
