We arrived at 1300 it was misty and drizzling for the first couple of hours. As we drove down the lane we saw what for both of us was spectacular, a female Sprawk chasing a small bird, it was going this way and then that way trying to avoid the clutches of the raptor, back and forth they went till the small bird dived for cover in the hedgerow narrowly avoiding the Sprawk, the Sprawk then flew like billy up the lane and disappeared. Only ever seen that at a distance. A while later while parked at the crossing my mate spotted a female Peregrine with prey flying over us towards the field opposite the swans, at the time I was having my sandwiches in the car, and he told me to look. I did and the Peregrine was having a struggle to keep going as the prey item was putting up a fight, last we saw of the raptor was going over the river to have it's dinner
After we had spent an hour watching, filming and taking photos of the swans I drove up to the car park and again had some more sandwiches etc

As I was chatting to a Grimsby lad I spotted the male Hen Harrier out the corner of my eye, we rushed over to see it and then a SEO appeared at same time coming along the drain! Didn't know which way to look but as the Harrier was my first of year concentrated on that.
Rest of sightings as follows: Whooper Swan - 4, Bewick Swan - 8, Mute Swan - 39 [about half a dozen were asleep and I couldn't see what they were ], Goldfinch - 25, Tree Sparrow - 12, House Sparrow - 6, Mallard - 8, Skylark - 3, Yellowhammer - 9, Corn Bunting - 73, Grey Heron - 2, Reed Bunting - 2m, Mipit - 1, Great Tit - 3, LT Tit - 5, Chaffinch - 1, Redwing & Fieldfare - c55, Kestrel - 2, Common Snipe - 7, Teal - 5, Starling - 25, Crow - 11, Lapwing - 1, Magpie - 5.
Visited Bonby Carrs for the first time we were wondering why the fields are being dug up and what looks like scrapes being made, does anyone know? We saw the Mallard, Teal and Snipe there. It looks as if it could be an excellent place. I saw the diggers last week while at Worlaby but had no idea what they were doing.
Another cracking day at one of my favourite sites

I like it especially because I don't have to get out the car unless I really have to
Kind regards
John
