A friend in work with me was travelling to work this morning from Market Rasen and swears blind he saw a Swift. Described it quite well - I took the mickey! However whats the earliest reports of a Swift in the County for future reference and roughly when do they pitch up in April? Thanks |

The earliest date recorded for Swift in the county is 18th April but they usually arrive during the first few days of May, April birds are unusual. I don't know what your friend saw but I am sure it was not a Swift!! |

It's not in the realms of impossibility, although extremely unlikely. A Common Swift was seen today in NE Spain, early for them I should think. |

I don't know whether the record has been accepted but one was reported 5th March 2008. You'll have to see the 2008 report when it's published. John |

In fact there were 2 Swifts seen in different places in NE Spain on the 22nd,see http://fronterers.blogspot.com The first Common Swift they had last year was on 22/3. Alpine Swift can also be earlybirds. |
