Great Grey Shrike Found this bird at at 16:40 today,at Welbourn. It was perched in the trees by the side of the A607,Lincoln to Grantham road, just before the turn to Welbourn heath heading south from navenby. Not able to look for the bird on tuesday, due to my work. If you intend to go for the Shrike please park in Welbourn, and walk back to the A607. There is a footpath on the side of the road. This road is very busy. A nice find on my way home from work. Cheers Alan. |

Wasn't there one near Navenby about 10 to 15 years ago? |

The bird was still there today (23.02.2010) between 4.15 and 4.45p.m. in the hedge around a grass paddock just opposite the turn to Temple Bruer and Welbourn Heath. Cheers, David Cohen |

The Great Grey Shrike showed at 07:30 this morning. 24/02/2010 Thank you David for those clear directions. It was in the tallest hawthorne looking right as I entered the field. (Public Footpath) It look 60 mins to appear but it was rather early, misty and bitterly cold, first thing. Had to dash off to work. |

Seen today between 0930 and 1000am. Mainly around reservoir on east side of A607. Still there when I left but had flown back to village side of A607. Several record shots taken from 250m through the murk. One posted on album. Regards David |

I arrived at the stake-out at 10.40 this morning (Wed) but, as for Graham Hardy above, it was about an hour before I saw the Shrike at 11.40. The bird then showed frequently, and occasionally with extended views up to 12.30 at least when I left. It only showed on the Reservoir side of the A607 and some very good views were obtained by walking along the metalled footpath back some 200-300m closer to Navenby, including really close views as it perched on the Reservoir fence alongside the road. There were about 15 birders there. Pleased to meet up again with Derek P. and Hugh M., and also Brian C. (Lincoln RSPB Group). Regards, Freddy |

Still present late afternoon briefly, opposite Cow Lane. Then it left towards the South and did'nt find it afterwards (however I was busy trying to dig/push Peter Hayward's car out a bog!!!) Thanks Alan, great find and great to see one in Lincolnshire! |

Good views of the Shrike today Thursday 25/02. First seen at 12:40 hrs in the top of a tree in the hedge at the northern side of the reservoir. It then flew to a tree on the south side of "Mill Lane", the road to Temple Bruer, after a couple of minutes it flew to the dead branch of the ivy covered tree to the north of the reservoir and after a short stay crossed the A607 presumably to the paddock between the house and the main road. (Sorry its a bit verbose, but may help people going later) We also saw 4 pair of Bullfinch, numerous Blue & Great Tits, Chaffinch, Mistle Thrush and Redwing. A flock of around 50 Fieldfare on the Heath road from Coleby to the A15 and another similar flock on Dunston Heath Lane. Best Wishes Derek |
