Post subject:  Worlaby Wild Swans.
A few hours around the patch today revealed a large flock of mixed swans on the fields just past the railway crossing which contained 47 Mute,5 Whooper(4 ad,1 1st w.) and 8 Bewick's(all adults),which made for a great spectacle.The swans are very wary,looking very nervous,even when i was observing them from 150 metres and at one point where flushed by a passing 4x4 and they all flew into the wet pasture field,but soon returned.Other birds seen today included the following:

87 Corn Bunting(At the railway crossing)
47 Yellowhammer
1 Merlin
2 Peregrine(juv. male and adult female,obs. sparring and chasing each other)
1 fem. Marsh Harrier
28 Curlew
2 Little Egret
7 Common Buzzard(No odd ones!!)
46 Goldfinch
38 Linnet
140 Fieldfare
1 Barnacle Goose(with a flock of 70 Greylag,which all flew towards the humber).

20 wary Barnacles in the quad 3 area of Donna Nook nnr,yesterday per Cliff Morrison, also in the area 1 peregine 1 merlin and 4 short eared owls. cheers John.

I drove very slowly down the muddy track stopping quite a few times, the swans were standing to attention as I made my way further along but they never flew off. It's better to have the car as an hide rather than be walking in the open. Steve is right they are a spectacle.

Only ever seen one Bewick before and oddly enough that was a disputed sighting by certain members of what was then Lincs Bird Club News [before the forums were set up] at least I think that was it's name. No doubting this time though I got some video and pics :lol:
