After an absence of nearly 2 months, last sighting 5th Dec, it was good to see that the Bittern was back at the mere this afternoon. It was seen to fly from the reeds at the west end and landed in the top of the reeds on the north side opposite the hide. It sat in the tops of the reeds for a few minutes before climbing down and out of sight. We had been worried that it may have succumbed to the hard weather but it looks as if it had moved out and has now returned.

Also seen:-
1 pair of Wigeon
28 Gadwall
17 Teal, 9 males
2 pairs of Shoveler
7 male Pochard
33 Tufted Duck
1 adult Lesser Black-backed Gull
