Messingham Sand Quarries: 11.30 - 16.30 partly sunny and cold.

WeBS CC plus other sightings as follows:

Fieldfare - 6 , Redwing - 1 , Buzzard - 3 , Goldfinch - 5 , Chaffinch - 3 , Magpie - 1 , Bullfinch - 4 [1m 3f] , Blue Tit - 4 , Great Tit - 2 , Willow Tit - 1 , Blackbird - 2 , Crow - 3 , Corvids - c260 [over north].

Greylag - 670 , Canada - 1 , hybrid Canada - 1 , white Greylag - 1 , Moorhen - 2 , Shoveler - 6 , Gadwall - 4 , Shelduck - 3 , Mallard - 102 , Teal - 136 , Wigeon - 16 , Mute Swan - 37 , Coot - 21 , Tufted Duck - 27 , Common Gull - 11 , Cormorant - 7 , Redshank - 4 , Black-headed Gull - 42 and Lapwing - 6.

Considering 95% of the pits were frozen this was an excellent number, all the WeBS birds being on or close to the Duck Pit.

Kept an eye out for the Bittern but no sign of it. In the field beyond the Duck Pit someone was letting off a gun which I was annoyed about until it put all the geese up and they came over and over till they all finally landed on the only part of pit not frozen, it certainly was a sight and sound of which I got most of it on video.

Regards

Max :D
