I manged to record 73 species this month (December 2009) My yearly total being 110 which is a tad over my mean annual average. My patch life list now stands at 138 I recorded two new patch lifers:- Nightingale for 15 mins and a Curlew This years high lights being the Nightingale (recorded the day before they arrived at Whisby), up to two Little Egret being seen more regularly, Red Kite (I had eight raptors in total) plus four species of owl. I only managed ten waders (about the norm) the best being Snipe, Woodcock, Green Sandpiper and the Curlew. Three species of wagtail breed and I still managed to record a Cuckoo. This year I dipped out on Hen Harrier (although I could see one in the adjacent fen), Sand Martin (they usually migrate alone the River Slea), Whinchat & Stonechat (the later recorded in all previous years) Corn Bunting (this has been declining steadily now this last five years). Graham Hardy - Happy New Year everyone. |

Sounds like you did pretty well Graham,i recorded a total of 117 species for the year at Worlaby, with 3 new ones,Spotted Redshank(8.2.09),Male Snow Bunting(7.3.09) and 1st winter male Ring Ouzel(11.10.09.).I suppose the most unexpected find was the Snow Bunting, but the most satisfying was the juv Rough-leg on 2nd January. It's those good days that keep you watching through the year!Happy new year to all those who use the forum and lets hope for some more good birds in Linc's(As long as i see them)next year ![]() All the best Steve. |
