Russell, The other photo in the Album, in a slightly different light, of the single duck (of the two) with the green patch behind the eye and pinkish grey flanks reminds one of drake American Wigeon/ American Wigeon hybrid escapes. Regards, Freddy |

American Wigeon did cross my mind but these birds do not seem to have all the features you would expect. As I have not seen another picture showing the same plumage details I will have to assume that they are some sort of American Wigeon/Hybrid, unless anyone knows different? |

Take heart, Russell; if it's not Chiloe then they do say that escaped hybrids of Wigeon with S. American Chiloe Wigeon A.sibilatrix can be VERY confusing. Regards, Freddy |

Whatever they were, they were different from my limited knowledge of strange looking ducks and have certainly got me scratching my head today. Thanks all for your helpful comments. |
