A Great White Egret came on the RBA pager for Kirkby on Bain Gravel Pits this morning. The message was that it was 'present briefly at 9.20 a.m'. There was no further news.
Did anyone else see this bird?

Regards,
Roy

Roy,
Trevor Gunby's photo of the Great White Egret taken at 09.20 today (Thu) is on the Birdguides photo section. Trevor Gunby adds (with the photo) that he only had time to grab a few hasty shots at 09.20 in poor visibility before it flew off to the East.
However, John Lusby's post clearly states that he also saw the bird around 'dinner-time' today.
Let's hope it stays around the area for a bit longer.

Regards,

Freddy

Thanks for that Freddy, I did not realise that Trevor had seen it and taken a picture.

Regards,
Roy.

I spent about 3 hours late morning checking all of the pits in the area, plus part of the stream on the eastern side of the reserve. No sign of the Great White Egret but the Ring-necked Duck was still there and showing well from the hide at about 12.45 p.m.
Also seen;

Stonechat
Kingfisher

Stef McElwee reported 2 Yellow-legged Gulls on the tip but said fewer gulls were present today as two Peregrines were being flown around the tip, presumably to frighten the gulls away.
