I was brought to attention somewhat abruptly at about 17.00 by the distinctive honking notes of approximately 470 Pink-Footed Geese flying overhead. These are undoubtedly new autumn arrivals. The only perplexing thing was that they were flying in a north-easterly direction, although I suspect they were searching for an arable field that had recently been harvested for sugar beet or potatoes. |
