have there been any recent sightings of this bird? someone wanted to know -- I guess it was not seen from the boat yesterday or it would have been reported? |

I have been told today that the King Eider gave very close views from the Boston Belle on Saturday and that a Great white egret was see from the boat on the banks of the witham near Frampton reserve too, cheers Paul |

BirdGuides is reporting it again today - first time for a week Nobody from Saturdays cruise seems to be saying whether the views were distant or close |

Terry Sherwood and I saw it about 200m from the hide on Thursday evening. It magically appeared after we had been sat there two hours, all on its own. We had been scoping the 11 distant scattered eiders and it had not been with them. John Waters had been doing the same for two hours before we arrived. It is def. coming out of eclipse: the head is greyer than on Graham's Boston Belle photo, and the two horns on the wings are now obvious. Tip for seeing it (John) - it appeared about an hour before high tide and was happy in the river mouth as the small fishing boats came in but it quickly swam back out into the Wash as soon as the first of the larger cargo boats came out from the docks. So before high tide much better than after. We also had two flocks of high spiralling skuas: 18 and 8 but the 8 could have been part of the 18. All we could see were Poms. Also 3 Arctics and 2 Bonxies a bit later, and 16 Whoopers flew south. Steve |
