Had a call from a friend I met at Tattershall Lakes & Country Park last year when the Osprey was hanging around. Tonight at 1709 hours I had the call that its back.

It arrived last year on 15 September ( a Monday ) and its back, bang on the day 12 months later. I went straight over to try and get a view and stayed till dark with no sight, however I was told it looked like it was going to roost in the trees in the centre of the Fishing Lake. Last year it hung around for 2 weeks, so hoping for a similar timescale this year. I had a word with the access control point and birders have permissive access as long as you sign in and explain you have come to see the Osprey. Grid Ref of the lake it prefers is TF209571.

Got chatting and apparantly this lake has had a good year for Reed Warblers and Wren (one pair with a brood of 8). Kingfisher is often seen too.

My highlights tonight were:

1 Green Sandpiper (flew over)
10 Pied Wagtail (most were juv)
2 Mute Swans with 6 Cygnets
5 Egyptian Geese
1 Green Woodpecker
c200 Jackdaw going to roost

No big gull roost on the Waterski Lake.

Worth checking the age of the bird John as it may not be the same bird; different birds use favoured areas for fishing and roosting and will often pick the same perches as they are the best Osprey perches! the vast majority of the birds that arrived last September were juveniles and as such they will be in Africa this year as they do not typically return north in their first-summer so if last year's bird was a juv it is not likely to be the same individual but if last year's was an adult unless it is colour ringed here is no way of proving it either way unless Roy Dennis is tracking it!

Graham - will do thanks. There were two in the area last year - adult (assuming its this one back for two weeks of Sep) plus 1 other (last seen 12 Oct 09).

Thanks for the info though - should of stated "assumed same one" to be more precise. I have expected one to turn up - just did not expect it to be exactly "on the day"!
