A lot of people at Cut End today for the High Tide and looking for the King Eider
Eventually it was seen a long way out at high tide near some buoys. Once it was found and people got onto it. the bird was then disturbed by some ships leaving the river. When I left about 12:30 people were still trying to locate it

It was never easy to see bobbing up and down but those with 60X magnification were reasonably confident about its credentials. Those of uswith less than 60 had to take their word for it ?!

Also seen today was
Leach's Petrel - this flew from the river mouth towards Frieston but was lost from view before it reached the shoreline
Manx Shearwater 1
Gannet 12+
Shag 1
Peregrine 1
Artic Skua 5 at least
Great Skua 2
Sandwich Tern 50+
Little Egret 36 at least

Planning a trip on Saturday morning to see this (fingers crossed) - anyone know what time high tide is?

I guess there will be a small crowd there....

High tide on Saturday is 1132, but its only a 6.1m tide, so not very high. Still, should be high enough to float a few eiders near enough.

Easy Tide website is predicting high tide at 10:34 at a height of 6 metres for Saturday.
This doesn't seem as accurate as Paul Frenchs answer which coincides with Andy Sims posting on Tuesday for today which was spot on judging by todays events

6 metres is somewhat lower than today which isn't really relevent if it stays out as far as it day today!

by the way 1 pink foot on the main lagoon at Frieston this afternoon
black tailed godwit 47, ruff, dunlin, avocet 1 and 5 pintail all on the resevoir

plenty of swallows c200, yellow wagtail c24 and probably double that figure for grey wags

You have to add an hour for BST, and i guess you mean Pied Wagtail rather than Grey? That many Greys would be a better record than the Leaches Petrel!

Oops, you are right about the pied/grey wagtails of course Paul - and it wasn't even wishful thinking. Just senility. I also have a habit of calling a spotted redshank a spotted sandpiper which gets others a bit panicy asking where, where, where!

It eventually dawned on me about the difference between BST/GMT about 03:00 this morning. Funny what you think about when you toss & turn in bed sometimes!
