Just 5 over Louth last evening. It would be interesting to know how their breeding fared this year, with a number of old buildings in the town re-roofed since last summer.

total of 61 Swifts south at Spurn on the 14th from Spurn web site;

3 Alkborough 16th

occasional later passage occurs in some years; in 2004 there were 200 over Barton pits on August 23rd after 128 arrived on the 18th

300 August 13th 2001 in Bonby Carrs

Barton maximum of 78 September 12th 1992 in late influx of birds after early August departure

Barton pits 129 west September 8th 1977

In general though early mass departures seem to be more common now than in the 80's and 90's with fewer birds in late August

Just observed a lone swift over my house, heading west.(4pm) First one I have seen for about a week. Have enjoyed a few weeks having them wheeling and calling around my house, I really miss them when they go!

Pair still feeding young, Seen entering farm building under the pantiles at 8am this morning. The majority of our breeding colony left a fortnight ago.
I find that the lingerers can be quite elusive as they forage away from the breeding site and only fly around the site early and again late in the day.
