Whilst on a working party at the mere this afternoon we were sheltering in the hide from a heavy downpour when a female Scaup dropped in. This is only the 3rd record of Scaup for the reserve. The bird was still present and actively feeding when we left at 15:30. Also seen were 1 Hobby hunting dragonflies, 1 Water Rail, 9 Lesser Black-backed Gulls, 1 Common Tern, 1 Kingfisher and 2 juvenile Coal Tits. With Dean Nicholson & Grahame Hopwood. |
