My first opportunity to have a good day's birding at the new reserve. a good day with 69 species in total (a reserve record?). Nothing rare but included:

5 Ruff - moulting males
2 Green Sands
1 Blackwit
2 Snipe
2 Common Sands
At least 8 Little Ringed Plovers consisting of 2 families
Plenty of Avocets. Some with well-grown young, others appear to be incubating.
Tufted Duck had at least 10 ducklings
1 Sparrowhawk
1 Marsh Harrier
3 Turtle Doves
Young Barn Owl in nestbox entrance

Why is it that I seem to miss so much during trips? I saw only two LRPs, no sandpipers or snipes..... can someone accompany me round the place to show me where I am going wrong?
