Seen from the hide which looks back on the visitor centre - Reedbed Hide? - off the end of the first island out on the right this afternoon around 3.30. It was under the water more than on top, but I got some good views. I'm more of an improver than a beginner by now, and I'm pretty sure it was a red-necked grebe. Definite red neck, and patch of white at the top. However I would feel a whole lot better if someone else has seen it as well.....! PS If anyone is wondering, I'm well aware it could simply have been a little grebe, but I've seen those plenty of times before, and it had a sleeker appearance around head and body. I'm also aware of the maxim that 99% of the time it's going to be what's likely to be in that place, rather than something rarer, but that still leaves 1%.....
