A wood warbler was trapped and ringed this morning at 0630 (M Briggs). A very unusual June record. The only previous June record was in 1979 and that was only just into June - on the 1st. Today's bird was a juvenile (which aslo seems incredible as no juv willow warblers are being caught yet) and must have originated fairly locally ? I went looking for it briefly late morning, unsuccessfully, but did see three crossbills land in pines briefly before heading south - a pair plus juv. They later flew south over the East Dunes (per D Matthews). Offshore this week, there have been occasional manx shearwaters (per JPS and DM). I received a call from a friend on Blakeney who has also been seeing small nos of manxies offhsore and a Med shear heading towards the Lincs coast yesterday eve. Cheers Kev |
