One calling while circling the St James' tower a number of times at 14.00 before flying off. Could it have anything to do with two couples in their late teens who spent 45 minutes there at that time, shouting to people below, waving their arms around, spitting and throwing cigarette butts? If I was a peregrine, I'd relocate elsewhere! Geoff |

Well, I've been up that tower and no person, staff or visitor, is allowed on the North side of the tower. The Friends of St. James' Church are well aware of the perigrine's status to us, all of them have tried their best to make the tower as welcoming as possible - to a perigrine that is! Although, I have heard that it spends quite some time around South Thorsby, and there is another perigrine that also goes around there (to my knowledge) - and that's the Lincoln Perigrine(s). Who knows, maybe next year, we'll see 1 male perigrine serving 2 females at different locations - is that possible????!!!!!!!! ![]() ![]() |

Alastair, the problem is, as you will know, the walkway around the tower is very restricted and while there is access to the east side, it's possible to put your head around the corner and view the nest tray on the north side. The peregrines tend to roost on the east & south side and after a gap of many weeks, one has started using the tower again. It was certainly scared off by the behaviour of these louts (though they wouldn't have been aware of it). It's wishful thinking that all church volunteers are supportive, we have neighbours who are not. I went in to complain this afternoon, and just got a shrug of the shoulders from the person on duty. |
